Clubhouse has become multilingual

Clubhouse announced at a press conference in India the addition of 13 new languages to its app, making it more accessible to people who want to see the platform available in their native languages.

Clubhouse has become multilingual

The app update brings translation to millions of people who don't speak English, or who would prefer an alternative in the local language.

The 13 languages include French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malayalam, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Tamil and Telugu.

This group is notably missing four of the top 10 most spoken languages in the world (Chinese, Arabic, Bengali, and Russian).

The languages arrive via the Android version of the platform first, which makes sense. According to Statcounter, more than 96 percent of Indian mobile phone users use Android. While iOS lags behind with a market share of about 3 percent.

The Android-first approach with this update is encouraging for an app that took a long time to make an Android version available. Support for iOS is also expected to arrive later.

And the company wants to add additional languages soon. This is so that people from Mumbai and Paris to Sao Paulo and Jakarta can experience Club Huas in local languages.

"Since the app hit the App Store, we've seen millions of people meet, make friends, talk deeply and exchange ideas through the app," said the PR representative at Club House. The variety of conversations is growing every day.

He added: "We were genuinely amazed that people in so many countries were able to come together to do this via an English-only app."

Clubhouse adds 13 languages

In addition to the new multi-languages, the platform also announced a new app icon featuring musician, singer and songwriter Anirud Deshmukh.

Deshmukh lives in Mumbai, joined the stage at the start of the year and, by spring, released his room, now 72,000, where he hosts his Late Night Jam show.

Moreover, the platform earlier allowed people to share external links and monetize their work through it. This is done through the new Pinned Links feature, which allows admins to place external links at the top of the room.
