How to import and export passwords from iCloud

The iCloud platform has a built-in feature that allows it to manage registered passwords that are used across various Apple devices.

This feature also allows you to access passwords across all devices simultaneously without having to share them.

But some need to move from the iCloud password manager to one of the other password manager apps or a browser.

This is useful if you are moving from Apple to other devices, or want to share your passwords with another device.

This feature was not previously available because Apple used special encryption for its iCloud password manager, but after the Monterey system, Apple started using the encryption standard used by all password manager apps.

Import iCloud passwords

With this method, you can transfer the passwords that you were using with another password manager or another browser to the iCloud password manager.

You need to make the password file generated by the first application in CSV format, which is the format used by many applications.

After that, you can go to the system settings in the Monterey system and then choose Passwords, and within this selection you will find all the passwords registered in the iCloud service.

Then click on the three dots at the bottom of the list, and choose Import passwords.

After that, the system asks you to search for and select the password file, and then asks to confirm your identity to start the import process.

And when the new passwords are entered into iCloud, the app will ask you if you want to delete the file you imported.

It is recommended to delete the file, as anyone can access it on your computer and thus access all your passwords.

Export passwords

The method for exporting passwords works as easily as the import process, but the difference is that this process produces a file that you can transfer.

The password export process produces a CSV file that can be imported into any other password manager application you wish to use.

All you have to do is go to System Settings, then Passwords, and then click on the three dots and choose Export.

It then asks you to confirm your identity and choose where you want to export the file to, and you must wait for the export to finish.
