Twitter reported user gains in the third quarter of 2021 and reported good revenue growth, but significantly missed Wall Street earnings estimates.

Twitter gains 5 million users in the third quarter

The company said it averaged 211 million monetized daily active users in the quarter, up 13% year-over-year, and a net profit of 5 million in the period.

The average number of monetized daily active users in the US was 37 million for the third quarter.

Revenue growth outpaced user growth, and third-quarter sales totaled $1.28 billion, an increase of 37% year over year.

In the United States, where the number of net daily active users grew by 1 million net annually, revenue rose 45 percent to $742 million.

In its letter to shareholders, the company said Apple's iOS 14.5 privacy change, which requires the user to be able to track ads, had an increased impact on third-quarter revenue compared to the second quarter. But he remained humble.

It is still too early to assess the long-term impact of Apple's privacy-related iOS changes, the company said. But the impact of third-quarter revenue was less than expected. We have included a modest and continuing impact in our guidance for the fourth quarter.

Twitter revenue grew 37%

The company's net loss was $537 million. The loss in this period includes a one-time net litigation fee of $766 million for the third quarter.

The fee relates to the company's agreement to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging providing misleading information about user interaction to investors.

The company's shares rose, as investors were encouraged by the positive guidance for the fourth quarter and the impact of iOS 14.5 was not that severe.

And Twitter expects revenue for the fourth quarter to be between $1.5 billion and $1.6 billion. Operating income should range between $130 million and $180 million.

"We're improving personalization, facilitating conversations, delivering relevant news, and finding new ways to help people get paid on the platform," Jack Dorsey said in a statement.

Twitter ad revenue rose more than 41 percent to $1.14 billion. With an increase in total ad interactions by 6 percent over the previous year.
